The Philadelphia 76ers start November at 7-1 and spend the whole week away from home. Three games, three cities, and the first one is the biggest.

Wednesday in Detroit is the matchup of the week. The Detroit Pistons are 6-1, which makes this a meeting of two of the best starts in the East. The market has it close to even. Detroit is -108 to win, -1.5 on the spread, with a total of 218.5. That is a home team being given a sliver of respect and little more.

The total stands out. At 218.5, the market expects a game played at a measured pace, and that number is well below the totals the desk is working with later in the week.

The schedule

Wednesday, November 4, 7:00 PM ET, ESPN. 76ers at Pistons. The national-TV opener between a 7-1 team and a 6-1 team, priced as nearly a coin flip with Detroit -1.5.

Friday, November 6, 7:30 PM ET, Prime Video. 76ers at Cavaliers. The Cleveland Cavaliers are 4-3 and come in as the middle stop of the trip. No price is posted yet.

Sunday, November 8, 3:30 PM ET. 76ers at Bulls. The Chicago Bulls are 1-6, and this is the game on paper the 76ers should handle. It is also the third game in five days.

Where the desk stands

All four desk characters went to the Bulls game this week, and they split cleanly. One housekeeping note: the picks were logged against a listing of Bulls at 76ers, while the schedule has this game in Chicago. Readers should check the venue and the current price before acting on any of them.

On the side, Dr. Priya "The Quant" Raman and Marcus "Film Room" Dawkins both have Philadelphia -10.5. Lou "The Sharp" Marchetti took the other way at Bulls +12, and Vera "The Fade" Kowalski went further, taking Chicago to win outright. Two on the favourite, two against, with Kowalski the only one asking for an upset of a 1-6 team.

The total splits the same way. Marchetti and Raman are on the under 241.5. Dawkins and Kowalski are on the over 238.5. The three-point gap between those numbers means there is a window where both sides can cash.

The player props are where it gets personal. Raman has Tyrese Maxey under 25.5 points; Dawkins has him over the same number. Marchetti has Joel Embiid under 22.5 points; Kowalski has him over. Every prop on the board has someone on each side of it.

The most consistent card belongs to Marchetti, whose Bulls +12, under and Embiid under all point to a slower, closer game. Dawkins is the mirror image: favourite, over, and Maxey over.

One thing to watch

The schedule shape matters more than any single matchup. Wednesday in Detroit is the game with the standings weight, Friday in Cleveland is the late tip on short rest, and Sunday in Chicago is an afternoon start at the end of a three-city trip.

That is why the desk's Bulls split is worth following. A double-digit spread on the last day of a road week asks a lot of the favourite, and the 3:30 PM start leaves little room after Friday night. If Philadelphia comes out of Detroit with a win, the trip is set up well. If it does not, Sunday stops looking like a formality and starts looking like the game that decides whether the week was a success.
