The Philadelphia 76ers trailed by six after three quarters in Charlotte and won anyway, 109-104. They did it with a 32-21 fourth quarter, 38 points from Tyrese Maxey and a turnover margin that handed them ten more shots than the Charlotte Hornets got.

Charlotte shot better, 50 percent to 47, and led by as many as 13. Philadelphia's largest lead all night was six. The difference was possessions: the Hornets turned it over 18 times, the Sixers eight. Philadelphia took 86 field goal attempts to Charlotte's 76, and that volume carried them home. The win moves Philadelphia to 6-1. Charlotte drops to 3-4.

How it was won

The first quarter belonged to Charlotte, 37-27. Philadelphia answered with a 30-17 second quarter and went to the half up 57-54.

The Hornets took it back in the third, 29-20, and led 83-77 going into the fourth. That is where the game turned. Philadelphia scored 32 in the final quarter and held Charlotte to 21, an 11-point swing over the last 12 minutes.

Maxey was the engine. He finished with 38 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and went 4-9 from three. Anfernee Simons added 19 on 5-9 shooting from deep, all of his damage coming as a shooter: no rebounds, two assists. Jaylen Brown had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

The team numbers were close almost everywhere except ball security. Both sides made 14 threes; Philadelphia needed 35 attempts, Charlotte 39. Philadelphia won the paint 50-48 and lost the glass 38-36. The Sixers assisted on 27 baskets, the Hornets on 26. Philadelphia got to the line more often, 23 trips to 16, but made only 15 of them. Charlotte went 14-16.

For Charlotte, Grayson Allen was the problem all night: 27 points on 7-10 from three. Brandon Miller scored 24 with 5 rebounds and 5 assists, shooting 5-12 from deep. Naz Reid added 14 points and 5 rebounds. Three players combining for 65 points was not enough to offset 18 giveaways.

Against the number

Philadelphia closed as a 1.5-point favorite and won by five, so the Sixers covered. On the moneyline they closed at -118, with Charlotte at -102, a price that treated this as close to a coin flip.

The total closed at 211.5 and the teams combined for 213. The over came in by a point and a half, and it needed the fourth quarter: the game sat at 160 points through three, leaving 52 to get there. The final 12 minutes produced 53.

After trailing by six entering the fourth, the cover was in doubt for most of the night. Closing prices and the full line history are on the game page.

What's next

Philadelphia returns home to face the Chicago Bulls on Monday, November 2, 2026, on NBA League Pass. The Sixers have won five of their first seven by margins of six or fewer in four of them, including both games against the Knicks. Their only loss so far is a 106-93 home defeat to Detroit.

Charlotte sits at 3-4. Its next opponent was not included in the schedule information available to us, and we will add it to the board when it is set.
