The Philadelphia 76ers moved the ball better than the Chicago Bulls all night and won 126-107 on Monday at Xfinity Mobile Arena. The Sixers had 36 assists on 48 made field goals, shot 53 percent, and pulled away after a close first half.
Tyrese Maxey ran it, with 26 points and 11 assists. Jaylen Brown added 25 points and 11 rebounds, and VJ Edgecombe scored 21. Philadelphia is now 7-1 and has won four straight since its only loss, to Detroit.
How it was won
The Sixers took the first quarter 30-23. Chicago answered with its best stretch, winning the second 36-34, and Philadelphia led only 64-59 at the half. Chicago's largest lead of the night was 4, which came early.
The third quarter is where it turned. Philadelphia won it 26-20 to go up 90-79, and Chicago managed only 20 points in the period. The fourth was the Sixers' best quarter, 36-28, and the lead reached 22 before it settled at 19.
The box score tells the story:
- Shooting: Philadelphia 48-91 (53 percent), Chicago 38-89 (43 percent).
- Inside: The Sixers had 62 points in the paint to Chicago's 54.
- Ball movement: 36 assists to 26.
- Glass: Philadelphia out-rebounded Chicago 47-42.
- Threes: Philadelphia 11-31, Chicago 10-38.
- Free throws: Chicago went 21-32 and left 11 points at the line. Philadelphia was 19-27.
- Turnovers: Even, 14 for the Sixers and 15 for the Bulls.
Maxey hit 1 of 5 from three and did his damage driving and passing. Brown was efficient from deep at 4-7 and added 5 assists to go with his double-double. Edgecombe went 2-4 from three with 5 assists.
For Chicago, Caleb Wilson led with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, and made 4 of 9 threes. Norman Powell scored 18 with no assists, and Jalen Smith had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The rest of the Bulls combined for 6-29 from three, and that was too much to overcome against a team shooting 53 percent.
Against the number
Philadelphia closed as a 10.5-point favorite and won by 19, so the Sixers covered. The moneylines closed at Chicago +394 and Philadelphia -518.
The total closed at 240.5 and the teams combined for 233, so the under came in by 7.5. The first half pointed toward the over with 123 points, but the third quarter produced only 46 and that took care of it. Chicago's 11 missed free throws and 28 missed threes kept the scoring down on that side.
The odds and line history are on the game page.
